“It’s not every day you get to help revive a century-old theater in Baltimore. Joining the process early on, we helped shape the experience of visiting Maryland Film Festival’s new home, the Parkway. Following Ziger/Snead Architects’ approach of pairing old with new, our assertively modern design interventions contrast with the theater’s preserved ruin. To complement the minimalist design of the theater’s contemporary addition, we designed a sculptural white-on-white sign that wraps the building’s corner. At night, its edges glow with subtly shifting colors. Interior wayfinding is painted directly on the walls, literally framing layers of history. Bright colors offset muted shades of old plaster and paint. We used remnants of the original architecture to frame vibrant wall graphics that tell the theater’s story.”
